The court upheld the death sentence of the leader of the & laquo; gang of Huans & raquo; in the south of China
The court of Hainan province in southern China upheld the death sentence of the leader of the largest gang group since the appearance of the province, reported on March 11 agency Xinhua. The Hainan High People's Court rejected Juan Hunfa's appeal and upheld the death sentence handed down by a lower court for 17 criminal offences committed by Juan, including the organization of a 200-member mafia group. Other gang members including Juan Hunmina, Juan Insyana and Juan Hunjin also received sentences ranging from 25 years in prison to a death sentence with a two-year stay. Bandits killed two people and injured more than 20 in 30 years. In addition, the court found that the gang owned an underground casino and engaged in illegal mining, corrupt officials, and acquired a power roof to cover up their crimes. According to the Vice President of the Court Zhang Guangzyun, this case became the largest in the province both in terms of the number of gangs and the scale of their gang activities.
