Ghana developed an app to detect cases of coronavirus infection

Ghana has launched a mobile app to help authorities identify new cases of coronavirus infection, as well as individuals in contact with those infected. This is reported by the Air Force Africa with reference to the government statement. According to the statement, the application will be a turning point in the fight against the pandemic, and it also notes that the application has identified 100 persons who may have coronavirus infection. The app will track user movements via GPS, allowing authorities to identify individuals who may have come into contact with the infected. It will also be used to track compliance with the self-isolation regime, although it is unclear what the consequences will be for those who fail to comply. The app will be available in six local languages. The Ministry of Communications stressed that the data of users in the application is encrypted to guarantee their confidentiality. So far, 636 cases of coronavirus infection have been identified in Ghana, eight of which are fatal. A total of 37,000 tests were conducted in the country. Meanwhile, the International Monetary Authority has provided about $1 billion to Ghana to minimize the economic impact of the pandemic. A number of parts of Ghana, including the country's capital, Accra, have introduced strict quarantine and the country's land borders remain closed indefinitely.
