Mozambique leader extended PE regime due to pandemic

Mozambique's President Filipe Newsey extended the country's state of emergency for another 30 days to prevent the spread of coronavirus. This is reported by the Air Force Africa with reference to Newsey's television address to the nation. The President stated that the extension of the PE regime, originally introduced on 1 April, was due to the fact that these measures had contributed to the slowing down of the spread of the virus. However, he warned that some people were still leaving their homes for non-essential trips, and urged residents to do much more to curb the spread of coronavirus. In a state of emergency, movements within the country are restricted and foreign nationals are not allowed to enter Mozambique. Schools in the country remain closed, and the head of state warned that children should not wander down the street, as they did after the state of emergency was imposed in April. In Mozambique, 76 cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed, and no deaths were announced.
