Former Ghibli manager spoke about the incident between Miyazaki and Weinstein

Former Ghibli studio manager Steve Alpert gave reporters a comment about a viral story that Hayao Miyazaki once threatened the notorious producer Harvey Weinstein with a samurai sword. This was announced on June 23 by the Comicbook portal. Alpert said that he would be interested to find out where the very interview came from and when, how and to whom the cult animator gave it. He added that while he worked at Ghibli, he participated in organizing all the interviews with Miyazaki in the Western press and never heard him tell this story. He confirmed that the story really took place: the person who delivered the sword to Weinstein, when transmitting it, shouted words without abbreviations. Thus, Toshio Suzuki (co-founder of Ghibli), who owned the idea of the gift, decided to smooth out the conflict between Weinstein and Miyazaki, thereby clearly making Miramax clear that Ghibli would not allow her films to be reduced. Alpert suggested that in the case of this story there may be an incorrect translation or an inaccurate retelling. All I can say is that I have been present in all of the original story, from conception development to buying the sword and delivering it to Mr. Weinstein, Alpert said. According to information that appeared on the network, the conflict between Hayao Miyazaki and Harvey Weinstein arose when discussing the rental in the United States of the anime film Princess Mononoke. Weinstein wanted to cut the film, which Miyazaki strongly disagreed with. As a result, Ghibli studio achieved its goal and the question of reducing the timing of her paintings was no longer raised.
