He thought the bomb went off: 40 years of the tragedy of Tu-154 near Alma-ATA
July 8, 1980, the Tu-154 airliner crashed to the ground, broke apart and burned after less than two minutes after takeoff from Alma-ATA. Killing all 166 people aboard. Several local residents whose homes were hit by the wreckage of the plane, were injured. This disaster remains the largest number of victims in the history of Kazakhstan.
