Pompeo: sanctions against Iran will resume in 30 days

On August 21, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Washington sent a letter to the UN calling for the restoration of sanctions against Iran within 30 days. This was reported by the Iranian agency IRNA. Pompeo noted that the United States is initiating the restoration of all UN sanctions against Iran, lifted in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2231, and calls for an immediate response against Tehran. Speaking about the process of restoring sanctions against the Islamic Republic, he said that the snapback mechanism would be implemented. Citing the fact that the UN Security Council made a big mistake when it lifted the arms embargo, Pompeo noted that the US authorities will impose all their sanctions against Iran. The US letter to the UN Security Council states: In accordance with paragraph 11 of resolution 2231, we declare that Iran has not fulfilled a significant part of its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
