The Belarusian authorities and the media inflated the scandal by detaining a group of Russian citizens, but Moscow defends the interests of its compatriots, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters on August 4. Zakharova noted that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who actively comments on the situation with the detainees, is a highly experienced politician, the elections are not the first time. At the same time, he states that relations between the peoples of Russia and Belarus are not subject to opportunistic momentary interests, the Russian diplomat added. As for the Russian citizens detained in Belarus, whose guilt has not been proven, and the performance that was arranged around this, we will not give them a grudge.
