The United States expects the government of Macedonia to comply with the Prespan Agreement

On August 6, Matthew Palmer, Special Representative of the US Department of State for the Western Balkans, attended the Balkan Insider virtual conference. This was reported by the news agency Voice of America (media foreign agent), funded by the US Department of State. During the conference, the diplomat commented on the process of forming a government coalition in North Macedonia, which resumed on August 5, at the end of the vacation of the head of one of the two largest parties in the country, SDSM (Social Democratic Union of Macedonia) Zoran Zaev: Now the period of negotiations on the formation of a coalition is going on, this is a natural process in countries with democratic parliamentary systems. From the point of view of the United States, it is important and worth emphasizing that we expect the future government to be a good and strong partner for us, a government that aims to use NATO membership as fully as possible, a government that is determined to lead the country forward on the way to the European Union. Matthew Palmer At the same time, the politician emphasized that the United States expects the new government to be aimed at implementing the terms of the Prespan Agreement with Greece, which involves renaming Macedonia to North Macedonia. Recall that the Macedonian party VMRO-DPMNE (Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity) is known for its negative attitude towards this agreement.
