Zenit launch complex on Baikonur reconstructed for Soyuz-5

The reconstruction of the Zenit launch complex for the Soyuz-5 launch vehicles under development at the Baikonur cosmodrome will begin on October 16. This was reported by the press service of Roscosmos. The decision on the start date was made following negotiations between the Director General of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin and the Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan Baghdat Musin. The reconstruction of the launch pad will be carried out by specialists of the Center for the Operation of Ground Space Infrastructure (TsENKI) together with Kazakhstani builders. The Soyuz-5 medium-class launch vehicle is being developed by the Energia Rocket and Space Corporation. It is intended to replace the carriers of the Zenit series produced at Ukrainian enterprises. The first test launch of the Soyuz-5 rocket is expected in 2023. As the news agency previously reported, in September, the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin said that the Soyuz-5 floating launch site would also be able to be used for launches of launch vehicles.
