American Airlines will receive a government loan of $5.5 billion - Reuters

American Airlines (USA) was able to agree with the US administration to receive a government loan of $5.5 billion to compensate for losses related to the coronavirus pandemic. This was reported on September 25 by Reuters. According to him, the company was originally destined for $4.75 billion. After some air carriers, including Delta Airlines and Southwest Airlines, abandoned their stake in the US Treasury's loan package for airlines ($25 billion), American Airlines was able to allocate additional funds to itself. It is noted that the largest American air carrier in October can count on an additional amount of up to $2 billion, if the US Treasury goes to increase the size of the target credit package. Recall that earlier the largest American airlines have already received federal assistance in the form of non-refundable grants in the amount of $25 billion, on conditions of non-implementation of mass layoffs of staff until the end of September. According to the news agency, American Airlines plans to reduce up to 40,000 employees in October due to the ongoing coronavirus epidemic.
